Lucky 13 Letters was founded in 2016 by Meaghan Willis to serve clients interested in home decor. Shortly after, she began taking clients for weddings and events and was captivated by the industry’s beauty and intentionality. Lucky 13 Letters has served hundreds of brides, gift givers, and calligraphy enthusiasts over the years.

our story

How it began

In 2016, Meaghan was newly married, working a full-time engineering job, and seeking to exercise her creative side. She picked up some brush pens, a nib holder, and some ink and instantly fell in love with the art of calligraphy.

Over the first couple of years, Meaghan stretched her business muscles and tested the waters of Etsy sales, holiday decor, custom home items, and more. Ultimately she found her place in the wedding world and never turned back.

Weddings hold a special place in Meaghan’s heart. Having planned her own wedding before starting this business, she understands the time, care, and emotion invested in every detail. The couples we serve aren’t just planning a wedding—they’re curating an experience, ensuring every element is intentional, beautifully designed, and reflective of their personal story. We love collaborating with clients who share this vision, creating an unforgettable celebration not only for themselves but for the guests who will cherish it alongside them.

What’s so lucky about 13?

The number 13 has been significant to Meaghan for her entire life. Her mom’s birthday is June 13th and her parents were married on August 13th. Meaghan was born on August 13th—her parents’ 4th anniversary! When Meaghan and her now-husband, Nick, were planning their wedding, it was all too fitting that June 13th fell on a Saturday that year, so it became their wedding date (with permission from her mom, of course). Meaghan and her mom share birthdays and anniversaries, and their lucky number: 13.

Meet Meaghan Willis, a seasoned designer and calligrapher with over nine years of experience. With a background in aerospace engineering and project management, Meaghan brings a unique blend of precision and creativity to her work. Having been a bride herself, she understands the pressures of wedding planning and is dedicated to alleviating that stress for her clients. Meaghan genuinely loves collaborating with her clients throughout the creative process, leveraging her keen eye for detail to bring their visions to life.

I’m a Rocket Scientist.

No really, I have a degree in aerospace engineering! I’m a problem solver by nature and I have 8+ years of engineering project management experience.
I’m a Creative.

Dance was my creative outlet my entire life until I graduated college. I found calligraphy in 2016 and have put that creative energy there as an adult!
I’m a Wife.

Teamwork makes the dream work around here. My husband, Nick, is the carpenter for all large L13 projects and my number one supporter.
I’m a Mom.

My most important role started in 2022 when I became mama to my favorite little man. I left my full-time corporate job for the stay-at-home mom life shortly after!
I’m Detail-Oriented.

My high school friends used to give me grief for this, but now it’s a skill I utilize often. Being a perfectionist comes in handy in this job!
I’m a People Person.

I will always prefer a Zoom call or a chat at a coffeehouse over a long string of emails. Let’s meet and talk— I’m excited to see you!
I truly love this business.

Calligraphy has provided me with so many fun opportunities over the years. I’m grateful for the people I’ve met, the flexibility to be with my family, and much more.
